Top 5 Brooklyn Neighbourhoods

Brooklyn neighbourhoods each have their charm and appealing aspects - it all depends on what you're looking for in the place you call home, or if you're a visitor, what sights, entertainments or amenities you require. Here we give you the Top 5 Neighbourhoods in Brooklyn each defined by why they're so great.

Here is what we recommend:

Carroll Gardens: For Good Eats & Settling Down
Carroll Gardens appeals to the young and old: The 'old' being those who have lived here their whole lives, opening popular Italian eateries and strolling the neighbourhood to keep an eye on things; the 'young' being those couples with children starting school who are drawn to the green areas, the amazing aforementioned Italian eating spots, and the friendly neighbourhood vibe.
Top Tip: For good eats, keep an eye out for: Lucali (pizza), Buttermilk Channel (brunch) and Prime Meats (cocktails & well, meats).

DUMBO: For the Flea Market and Brooklyn Bridge Park
DUMBO (which stands for Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass) may be a loud (think trains rattling overhead) and busy through-way being on the western point of Brooklyn and so accessible to Manhattan; but it's become a cool, industrial spot for artists and their galleries, successful start-ups housed in converted warehouses and a flea market every Sunday. Nearby Brooklyn Bridge Park is unbeatable for spending the day hanging out and barbecuing.

Williamsburg: To Eat & to People-Watch
You can't visit Brooklyn without being drawn to its most hipster neighbourhood - a veritable hive of funky shops, cafés and bars. The music and art scene is alive and well here so strolling around brings you into contact with interesting people, amazing live music and a general cool vibe from everyone. Check out some of the amazing restaurants (Peter Luger for one) and aim to come during the week if you can as this place gets craaazzzy on the weekends.

Brooklyn Heights: For Living with the Best Views of Manhattan
An officially designated historic district, this old neighbourhood backs up onto the promenade with beautiful, sweeping views of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and the East River. Not to mention the park at the end of the promenade, Brooklyn Bridge Park, which having been recently built up over acres of land to house sporting courts, large green areas with barbecues and playgrounds, it's a great place to live or visit, with quick, easy access to Manhattan.

Prospect Heights: For the Park
This neighbourhood is great to visit when you're looking for some green areas, where you'll find Prospect Park and the Botanical Gardens, some culture, then head to the Brooklyn Museum, and for somewhere to eat, there are plenty of restaurants, cafés and bars to choose from. Check out the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket on Saturdays for all your produce needs or simply to browse the farmers' wares.
